At #166 NLCC John A. Hamilton we typically have 2 parades every training night.
Colours & Prayers: is the first parade of the night beginning at 18:15 hours. This is where attendance is taken, the flag is ceremonially raised, the cadets may be inspected and a march past occurs. Parents/Guardians are invited to stay and watch this parade.
Sunset: is the final parade of the evening beginning at 20:30 hours. The flag is ceremonially lowered, announcements and presentations may occur, then the cadets are dismissed to go home (duty division excluded [see below]). Parents/Guardians are strongly encouraged to attend this parade.
Between parades, unless invited to stay, we ask that parents/guardians leave the LHQ so that the cadets can continue their training night without distraction.
There is no canteen available to the cadets. The cadets are responsible to bring their own water bottle and a LIGHT snack for the scheduled 15 minute nightly recess between classes.
Water bottles should be labeled with the cadet's name.
Sunset parade begins promptly at 20:30 hours and the cadets are usually dismissed by 20:45 hours. There are nightly announcements during Sunset and it is highly recommended that parents/guardians attend the final parade of the evening to hear the announcements.
Cadets should be picked up no later than 20:55 hrs. (8:55 PM). Parents / Guardians MUST come to the school entrance to collect your cadet and sign your cadet out on the record of pick up log.
Duty Division is the cadets that assist is setting up and tearing down the parade square. Duty Division is a rotating schedule that can be found in the monthly Routine Orders. These cadets are expected to help in these tasks and are only dismissed on the approval of the Officer of the Day.
We understand that things happen and your cadet may miss a training night. It is greatly appreciated should your cadet not be in attendance you must notify the ship's office to advise of the absence. You can use the Leave Request form to let us know.
