The Importance of Proper Uniform Care & Maintenance

Welcome to the 166 NLCC John A. Hamilton family! As cadets, your uniform is a symbol of pride, discipline, and teamwork. Taking good care of it is essential. Here’s why:

Your uniform shows that you are part of something special. When you wear it neatly and correctly, you represent your unit with pride. It tells everyone that you are dedicated and respectful.

Learning to care for your uniform helps you develop good habits. It teaches you responsibility and attention to detail, which are important skills in all areas of life.

A well-maintained uniform is more comfortable to wear. Clean and properly fitted uniforms help you move easily and feel good during activities.

Taking care of your uniform shows respect for yourself, your leaders, and your fellow cadets. It demonstrates that you value being part of the NLCC and the traditions it upholds.

• Wash Regularly: Keep your uniform clean by washing it after each use.
• Iron Carefully: Iron your uniform to keep it looking sharp. Be sure to follow the care instructions on the label.
• Store Properly: Hang your uniform in a closet to avoid wrinkles. Use a garment bag if possible.
• Check for Repairs: Regularly check your uniform for any tears or missing buttons and fix them promptly.

Remember, your uniform is more than just clothing. It’s a symbol of your commitment and the values we stand for. Take pride in wearing it well!

Cadets grow—and sometimes they grow faster than their uniforms do! If any part of your issued uniform no longer fits properly, is uncomfortable, or is becoming difficult to wear correctly, please complete this form to request an exchange.

Do not continue wearing a uniform piece that no longer fits properly. Keeping your uniform properly fitted helps maintain a smart, clean appearance and ensures you can participate comfortably in all cadet activities.

Once completed, please submit this form to your DPO (Divisional Petty Officer). Your DPO will review your request and forward it on to the next steps for obtaining a replacement size.

• Complete one request for each uniform item that needs to be exchanged. Print clearly and concisely.
• State the item requiring exchange, provide the current size, and the size you require, where known. See the next section on HOW TO SIZE YOURSELF. If you are still unsure what size you need, speak with the Supply Officer before submitting the form.
• Listen for announcements or watch for communication on Uniform Exchange dates.
